Every year on the occasion of the Day of the Shining Star (Chairman Kim Jong Il’s birthday), the festival is held in Pyongyang.

The Kimilsungia and Kimjongilia Exhibition Hall is the venue for the festival.

The immortal flower, Kimjongilia, is a beautiful and unique flower bred by a Japanese horticulturist for years of his strenuous efforts out of his boundless reverence for Chairman Kim Jong Il.

In February Juche 86 (1997), on the occasion of the birthday of the Chairman, the first Kimjongilia Festival was held in a splendid way and since then it has taken place every year on the occasion of major national holidays.

Despite the freezing cold of February, people at home and abroad send Kimjongilia to the festival, wishing the Chairman an eternal life.

The immortal flower, Kimjongilia won lots of top prizes at the international flower exhibitions and expositions held in many countries.
