Korea
is not so big in territorial size. It has been called the “silk-embroidered
land of three thousand ri” (about 1,200 km) for
its gorgeous mountains and clear water, or
the “land of morning calm” for its beautiful and picturesque
landscape, or the “eastern country of good manners” for the
kindness of its people.
The
Korean peninsula is situated in central East Asia. It is
bordered to the north by China and Russia across the Rivers
Amnok and Tuman, and by seas to the east, west and south.
It
is a homogeneous nation and its official language is Korean.
With a 5,000-year history
and brilliant culture, the country has many celebrated mountains
such as the highest Mt. Paektu (2,750 metres), Mt. Myohyang, Mt.
Kumgang, Mt. Chilbo, Mt. Kuwol, Mt. Jiri and Mt. Halla.
The East , West and South
Seas of Korea are all linked with the Pacific Ocean.
Korea
has four distinct seasonal changes of spring, summer, autumn and
winter. Each season has its own beauty.
The average annual
temperature is around 8o to 12oC and
average annual rainfall is about 1,000-1,200 mm.
Numerous
monumental edifices exemplify the present-day DPR Korea.
