The
festival is held every year on the occasion of
the Day of the Sun (President
Kim Il Sung’s birthday) in a grand
style in Pyongyang.
It
is held in the Kimilsungia and Kimjongilia
Exhibition Hall.
President
Kim Il Sung visited the Borgor Botanical Garden
in Indonesia in April Juche 54(1965). At that
time President Sukarno presented this flower to
President Kim Il Sung as a gift. He had a flower
bred by some botanists of his country named
after President Kim Il Sung as a token of his
admiration for the great exploits the Korean
leader performed for the cause of global
independence.
Belonging
to the orchid family, the immortal flower
Kimilsungia is an evergreen perennial plant. It
is a very beautiful, pinkish-purple flower and
it is in flower for 60-90days.
During
the festival many organizations, groups and
individuals at home and overseas compatriots,
foreign organizations and individuals
participate in the event and display the flowers
they have cultivated in great care.
The
festival attracts many people at home and
abroad.
